Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Said Meck Sadiki
The promises were made by the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Said Meck Sadiki who paid a surprise visit to Dar es Salaam’s three public service hospitals of Amana (Ilala), Temeke and Mwananyamala (Kinondoni).
The Regional Commissioner explained that it was only after the committee’s tour that they discovered that the rooms in the various Emergency departments were too small to attend patients in critical condition.
“We will effectively work on the problem…” promised the commissioner. He even went on to lay out how they were going to do it “…purchase medical devices for the ICUs...” he promised.
Sadiki admitted that currently services in ICUs and EDs were ‘far from standard’ but went on to compliment the doctors who were committed to serving Tanzanians despite of the “...poor working environment…”
Doctors willing to provide service during the ongoing national doctors’ strike, have been reportedly receiving threats of violence from their colleagues.
The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Suleiman Kova asked them ‘not to worry’ saying they would be protected.
